After a distinguished amateur career in which he represented England at Boys, Youth and Full level Nick turned professional in October 1981. In his first tournament as a professional he qualified for the World Under-25s Championship in Nimes in France going onto make the cut and finish 28th behind the eventual winner Jeff Sluman.

A few weeks later he finished 14th in the European tour school Qualifying in Portugal to gain a full tour card for the 1982 season. He held a tour card in 1982, 83, 84, 85 and 1987. (Having regained his card in December 1986 at La Manga Golf Club in Spain)

He also managed to qualify for 2 British Open Championships in 1980 at Muirfield & 1983 at Royal Birkdale.
After losing his card at the end of 1987 he took on the Head Assistants position at West Surrey Golf Club and continued playing occasional satellite events and Southern Region PGA events.

In 1989 he won the Mizuno Assistants championship at Blackmoor going onto win the Southern Assistants Order of Merit and the Assistants stroke averages for the 1989 season. He went back to the tour school at the end of the year qualifying for the final school, making the cut and only narrowly failing to regain his full playing rights.

In 1990 he took the Head Professionals job at Donnington Valley and in 1993 won the Southern Professionals Golf Championship at Slinfold Park in Sussex. Although further attempts at regaining a tour card failed, he did manage to qualify for the final stages numerous times and won the European PQ 11 in 1990 at Escorpion Golf Club in Spain.

In 1997 he moved to Newbury Golf Centre as the Head Professional.
From 1997 to May 2001 he competed in regional and satellite events winning numerous events and losing a play off to win the Future tour championship at Ochardleigh.

In May 2001 he encountered his first major injury tearing his rotator cuff, which led to shoulder problems. In 2004 on regaining full fitness he claimed 5th spot in the Southern Professionals Championship at Cowdry Park and a 2nd place finish in the Jamega tour event at Whitney Lakes. After a string of consistent performances in 2005 which resulted in finishing 3rd in the BB&O order of merit, he finished 3rd in the Southern Professionals Golf Championship at Princes in 2006 and made it through the regional British Open Qualifying at Ashridge. By the end of 2006 he had got back into the top 25 in the South Region Order of Merit and finished 8th in the BB&O Order of Merit.

In the current year he has won the BB&O Pro am four ball match play championship, won the BB&O Alliance championship at Henley with scores of 66 & 62 (course record), won the Pro lady foursomes championship at Calcot Park (for the second time) and won the regional qualifying for the British Open at Ashridge with a 4 under par 68.

To date he has won over 60 events as a Professional.

Since moving to Newbury Racecourse he has served a 2 year period as Captain of the Berks Bucks & Oxon PGA, commentated for radio 5 live at the PGA Championship at Wentworth and commentated for the World service at the British Open in 2004.
He is now in his 10th year as the Head Professional at Newbury Golf Centre and continues to run the retail shop, run the successful academy and manages the golf operation on behalf of Newbury Racecourse.
